This Highlander’s Scottish Dirk melds a grip of elaborately carved wood with a stiff and rigid blade of tempered high carbon steel. Fittings of fine brass adorn the hilt and the dirk is finished with a well crafted sheath of thick leather with brass furniture and a swivel-rivet mounted belt loop for wear.

\nAfter the great Highland loss at Culloden, much of traditional Scottish clan culture was banned under English rule, save for the Highlander Regiments of the British Army who were permitted to wear full Scottish dress and tartan complete with the traditional dirk. The dirk would come at their own personal expense and thus many could be quite elaborate to represent the individual’s means and station. No mere dress accoutrement, the thick and rigid blade of the dirk ably pierced the thickest clothing with ease to inflict grievous wounds as a close-quarters sidearm.
