This Late Roman Spatha Sword is based on historical examples from the 3rd and 4th century. Substantially longer than the earlier Gladius, the long blade of the Spatha became favored as Rome began to rely more heavily upon mobile cavalry forces to patrol the vast borders of the Empire. The longer reach of the Spatha was favored by the mounted fighting man and in time this preference spread throughout the whole of the army.

\nThis replica has a blade of high carbon steel; its guard and pommel are wood and the grip is carved and well-polished bone. Included with the sword is a wooden scabbard which is bound in stitched red leather and completed with brass fittings and trim. The brass suspension sling loop allows for your own baldric or belt to be fitted through the scabbard sling for wear.
