This Roman Pompeii Gladius has a blade forged from high carbon steel; the pommel and guard are crafted from wood and the grip is of carved bone. The sword tang is secured against the pommel with a brass pommel nut and the guard is protected with a brass guard-plate which is inlaid into the wood of the guard. On top of this is a felt tab which cushions the hilt from contact with the scabbard – it can be easily removed if desired.
